Description
Summary:The increasing demand for air transport has outpaced the capacity of the air transport system, leading to flight delays and other disruptions. Public opposition to increasing airport capacity has made it difficult to meet growing demand. This demand could be met with a national investment in maglev technology. High-speed trains are successful in Europe and Asia, and have demonstrated their value on the heavily traveled northeastern corridors. New technologies have been developed in Japan and Europe which would be applicable to a national maglev rail line. If fully implemented, a Maglev line will provide a high level of speed, frequency, and reliability. Key issues in implementing this new technology are performance, economics, government support, public-private partnerships, research, early deployment, and new ways of thinking.
