Description
Summary:The present investigation assessed the impact of the Himreen Reservoir on the phyto-plankton composition in the river Diyala (a tributary of the river Tigris). Monthly samples of phytoplankton were collected from three stations; St. 1 (Upstream), St. 2 (Reservoir), St. 3 (Downstream), for the period March 1995 to February 1996. A total of 196 species were recorded. Results showed that there is a significant increase in the total species number in the Downstream station in comparison with the Upstream one. The application of similarity indices indicates that the Reservoir and Downstream station were most similar.
