Summary: | Network Interface Modules (NIM) allow the integration of microprocessor based relays and other intelligent electronic devices using different communication protocols into a substation integration system. Modular design of the NIM and software and hardware configurability of the communications allows the use of a universal module for interface with addressable or nonaddressable relays through RS-232, RS-485, copper or fiber optic cables. The basic components of a typical system of a substation integration system architecture and their essential functions are described. These are: the network master; the backup network master, and the Network Interface Module. NIM hardware and programming are also discussed. |
