Description
Summary:As for the high molecular weight nylon 6 synthesized by anionic polymerization of ε-caprolactam, the molecular weight was evaluated by the solution viscosity and light scattering measurements, and the molecular weight distribution was evaluated by GPC measurement. The former measurements were possible using polymer solutions with very low concentrations. A representation of the Mark-Houwink-Sakurada equation was obtained as Mw=2.81×104 [η] 1.35, which is applicable to a wide range of Mw (Mw≤106). The molecular weight distribution (polydispersity, P=Mw/Mn) decreased with a decrease of the concentration of the active residue of the chain initiator. The polydispersity of the highest molecular weight polymer synthesized in this study was found to be P=1.49, which is considered to be rather narrow.
