Effect of partial thickness actuation on stress concentration reduction near a hole
Piezoelectric materials and shape memory alloys are often used as partial thickness acuators. It is shown that such partial-thickness actuation cannot be used to reduce the stress concentration factor with axisymmetric actuation strain distribution.
