Silylation of isoquinoline with Me 3 SiCl/Li/THF or Me 3 SiCl/Mg/THF reagents has been studied. The choice of the metal and the experimental conditions govern the course of the silylation reaction and lead to new trimethylsilyl heterocyclic compounds.
