Assessment of total variation diminishing schemes in compressible mixing flow computations
The effects of the grid resolution and the inherent-scheme dissipation on the solution quality of direct numerical simulations were investigated by performing numerical simulations of temporally developing mixing layers, using recently developed high-resolution TVD schemes; the TVD results computed...

description | The effects of the grid resolution and the inherent-scheme dissipation on the solution quality of direct numerical simulations were investigated by performing numerical simulations of temporally developing mixing layers, using recently developed high-resolution TVD schemes; the TVD results computed using different limiters were then compared to those of the essentially nonoscillatory scheme. The computations performed covered a broad spectrum including subsonic, transonic, and supersonic convective Mach numbers. It was found that the accuracy of the numerical simulation is affected by both the grid resolution and the constituent limiters of the TVD schemes. The discrepancy of the results become progressively greater with an increasing convective Mach number. (I.S.) |
