Summary: | A simple algebraic model relating the mean achievement in a class to the ability range of the pupils in the class is presented and agreement between the model and data on the relationship between mean achievement and class size is described. The opinions of teachers were sought on the effects of the abilities of pupils on the pace of lessons and on the amount of material covered in lessons, and these data provide quantitative support for the model. |
