Mesomorphic structure of neutral amphiphilic phosphotobetaines having different interionic distances: I. Ethylphosphonatobetaines

Summary: | A set of ethylphosphonatobetaines having different interionic distances and two paraffinic chain lenghts is studied by X-ray diffraction. It is shown that amphiphilic ethoxyphosphobetaines behave as lyotropic liquid crystals in concentrated water solution, exhibiting lamellar mesophases. The respective influences of water concentration, interionic distance, and lenth of paraffinic chain on the geometrical parameters of the lamellar structure are established. |
