Summary: | High technology will revolutionize the workplace and work, but if left to proliferate unattended, as it has in the past, human needs will be frustrated rather than fulfilled. Today, our profession helps shape the man-machine interface in order to obtain the human performance required by a system. In doing so we attempt to meet human needs for safety, comfort and job satisfaction. And while we do this well, we ignore high-order human needs. If the full spectrum of human needs is to be met, we must broaden our goals and modify our approaches |
