Summary:This paper contains the results of analysis of chromato-mass spectrometric (GCMS) investigations of aliphatic and aromatic fractions extracted from bazhenovites and argillites in order to reconstruct the conditions of accumulation of these rocks. The performed investigation allowed us to make the unambiguous conclusion that the main rock types of the Bazhenovskaya Suite are consistent with two types of OM, namely the matter of mostly plank tonbacteriogenic genesis, for bazhenovites, and the matter mainly represented by remnants of the highest Earth plants, for argillites.
