Summary:In this paper we present the results of two methodological steps oriented to maximize data from surface: plan analysis and the survey of surface materials. This methodology was applied to interpret the structuration of external spaces related with domestic activities in Cruz Vinto, a settlement from the Late Regional Development Period (1200 - 1450 AD) in Northern Lípez, Potosí, Bolivia. The results obtained made us consider space syntax as a methodological instance and not an end in itself. The model proposed from space syntax was not coherent with the distribution of surface materials. Nevertheless, it constitutes a valid tool for generating interpretations that must be intertwined with other lines of evidence. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
