Description
Summary:A 180° Brillouin scattering experiment has been performed in order to clarify the dynamical mechanism of the transition from the quantum paraelectric state to the quantum ferroelectric state under [010]c uniaxial pressure in SrTiO3. A quasi-transverse acoustic mode appears above critical pressures σc ~ 33 kg/mm^2 (at T = 27.5 K) and σc = 7~10 kg/mm^2 (at T = 10.3 K). This appearance indicates that a spontaneous polarization is not parallel to any of cubic axes in the quantum ferroelectric state and that the condensation of the ferroelectric A 1(x) mode originated from the Slater E u(x, y) mode is not the dynamical mechanism of the transition.
