Summary: | Medication errors are now a worldwide public health problem, especially prescription errors. This study aimed at evaluating the profile of medical prescriptions collected in a drugstore in Montes Claros - MG, particularly observing the legibility of the same profiles. During a period of 30 days, it was collected 120 copies of medical prescriptions and were evaluated seven variables: legibility, identification of the prescriber, patient identification, dosage, dose per dosage unit, abbreviations and adequacy for P344/98. The results showed 24.1% and 26.7% of barely legible and illegible prescriptions respectively. In 76.7% of them the prescriber's identification was complete. And in 98.3% the patient's identification was incomplete. The dosage was absent in 20% of prescriptions. The percentage of prescriptions with no dose per dosage unit was 13.3%. Prohibited abbreviations were present in 91.7% of the prescriptions. Concerned to the adequacy of the law 344/98, the rate of mismatch hit 97%. It was concluded that the prescriptions had low quality profile, compromising the patients' health. It is recommended for improving this framework to implement a continuing education for doctors on the subject, standardization of digitized medical prescription and insertion of the pharmacist in clinical discussions.
