Description
Summary:Epidemiological data indicate that elevated heart rate (HR) is associated with high blood pressure (BP) and coronary artery disease with risk for coronary events. The aim of the study was to evaluate the situation of HR in relation to: hypertension, pulse pressure (PP), smoking, age and work duration exposure in professional bus drivers. Blood pressure and heart rate obtained from ECG during 414 periodical medical check-ups of bus drivers (from 01.01.02 – 30.11.02) and stored in medical records, were taken in consideration. Smoking, age and work duration exposure were registered. The study results showed data from 414 professional male bus drivers, age ranging from 25 to 60 years (44,6±3). Hypertensive group included 183 drivers with mean BP 148/95 mmHg; normotensive group included 231 drivers with mean BP 121/79 mmHg. The mean HR values of hypertensives were higher compared to normotensives (78,55±11 vs 73,52±10; p=0,236). The mean HR values in drivers with PP >50 mmHg (n=161), were higher compared to PP 40 y. (n=308) was higher than in age
