Summary:The aim of this survey was to estimate hypertension control and its predictors in 1262 hypertensives drawn from a primary care practice at Hospital de Clinicas, Buenos Aires. We carried out an urban community based cross-sectional study using data from a convenience (nonrandom) sample of patients aged 18 years and older (average aged in the sample was 67.0 ± 12.1 years, 822 were males). A patient questionnaire was used to collect data on a variety of variables including details on hypertension history and treatment, and seated BP was measured by duplicate. Even though 84.3% of hypertensives were receiving antihypertensive medication, good BP control was attained in 28.6%.
