Summary: | Further examines a model developed to explore the ubiquitous problem of making explicit an aspect of the implicit operation of listening to music. States that the model supports the view that music cognition is culturally determined and based on implicit rules established primarily in early childhood in all societies. Discusses the procedure developed to test this model, which involved developing a set of three-phrase test items in which listeners are asked to indicate which of three musical interpretations of the same short phrase is different from the other two. Comments on the findings. |
