[...]their costuming took the opposite direction and their elegant attire became a trademark.7 By contrast, the comedy team of Flournoy Miller (1887-1971) and Aubrey Lyles (1 884-1932) chose to work within the prevailing conventions. Since Broadway audiences of the era remained primarily white and Harlem entertainments primarily catered to black audiences, it would have been nice to see traffic move both uptown as well as downtown to witness the success of the show. |
