Description
Summary:Younger discusses the study of Aramaic Astral bowl. In 1966, R. D. Barnett published a shallow bronze bowl (18 cm in diameter and 3.5 cm in depth), apparently obtained in Luristan, engraved with a sophisticated astral scene (sun, moon, various stars and constellations) that at the time was in the Foroughi collection in Teheran. Barnett studied the bronzework and the astronomical iconographic data of the artifact, dating it to the 8th-7th century B.C.E., but he did not observe that the object contained seven tiny Aramaic inscriptions that label some of the astronomical entities. In 1999, Andre Lemaire published a full study of the object and its inscriptions.
