Summary: | Coombs' Data Quadrants are examined critically for consistency. Two classes of problems in his formulation are identified: (1) one of Coombs' three dichotomies is notably weaker than the other two, and breaks down entirely in two of the quadrants; and (2) the 'dichotomies' are not true dichotomies, and fail to include all logical analytical possibilities. Solutions to the problems are proposed. |
