Summary: | Ever Since 1947, when Communist-inspired civil war in the Balkans and the specter of revolution and collapse in Western Europe forced the United States to take up arms in the cold war, Americans have agreed that their world role was and is one of “leadership.” However much disagreement there might be over details, the nation has been all but unanimous that upon the United States there has descended in this century a unique responsibility for the peace, security, and well-being of the entire world. The eye of destiny is upon the United States; upon the will, the wisdom, and the honor of the United States and its people depends the next chapter of human history. |
