Description
Summary:The paper describes the work involved in producing a new map of Loch Leven, Kinross, with accurate submarine contours. The present programme of biological research being carried out on the Loch requires a more accurate map than that produced from the previous survey in 1900. It is shown how scientific requirements controlled the specification of the map and determined what sampling patterns and field survey methods should be used. Figures are given for the accuracy of the survey, as checked by independent measurements. The revised bathymetrical map has been produced at a scale of 1:2500, with a contour interval varying with depth, from 25 cm for the shallowest water to 2 m for the deepest water. A reduced and simplified version of the map at 1:10 000 scale is given with this paper.
