Description
Summary:The present study is concerned with the influences of scorer expectancy and handwriting quality on the scoring of essays. Two hundred and twenty-four undergraduates scored six intelligence and achievement tests and a single essay ostensibly completed by one junior high school student. The intelligence and achievement scores were uniformly good or poor to create expectancies. The essay was written in either neat or untidy handwriting. Significant main effects are found for expectancy and handwriting but the interaction between them was not significant. The findings are discussed in the light of the results of previous research.
