Description
Summary:The purpose of the investigation was to check the dimensionality of parental reports of child-rearing practices, utilizing recent refinements in factor-analytic methodology and a broader sample of items than heretofore employed. Fathers as well as mothers were studied. The subject sample consisted of 156 mothers and 133 fathers of 6-8-year-old children. The questionnaires developed for this study consisted of adaptations of the Sears (1957, 1965) variables. In the analysis of the mothers' data, 16 first-order factors were extracted and rotated to oblique simple structure, with 18 factors resulting from the fathers' data. Second-order analyses resulted in 8 factors in the case of the mothers' data and 7 factors in the case of the fathers'. The results are compared with the results of earlier analyses in the child-rearing-practices domain.
