Summary: | Extract: Developing countries need information on the level and composition of agricultural production. existing methods of measuring the level of agricultural activity leave much to be desired when applied to LDC's. the use of satellite data can make an important contribution to the speed with which data on area under cultivation are available, to improved cost effectiveness, and hence to a shortening of the length of the reporting period. relatively simple, manual interpretation techniques can be utilized to provide many LDC's with methods that are relatively cheap and that do not require the availability of very highly specialized computer processing capabilities. |
