Description
Summary:A paper aiming at reducing the lag between fam theory & res insofar as it concerns the functioning of the US Kin Fam Network & its matrix of help & service among kin members. The procedure is to review over 40 researches including several by the authors concerned with the structure & functioning of the nuclear fam in modern society. Does the evidence from empirical res establish the viability of the isolated nuclear fam as the most functional type in modern society? The conclusion is that understanding of the fam as a functioning soc system interrelated with other soc systems in the society is possible only by rejection of the notion that nuclear fam is isolated from other kin related fam's. The nuclear fam located in Ur & Ru communities is part of a kin network structure with integrated functioning involving varied interpersonal transactions along bilateral & generational lines, relative to the functional problems of the nuclear fam in modern society.
