Summary: | When an illegitimate pregnancy occurs in a middle-class family, if represents an acute crisis situation, the Representative family Interaction Group, which combines crisis theory and family and group work techniques, has been used in a maternity care agency to facilitate meaningful communication between unwed mothers and their parents. In group discussions involving several families, the therapists attempt to clarify defective communication patterns that exist in these families and to help them develop more effective communication as a means of restoring family equilibrium. |
