Summary:In the second half of the 5th century B.C. many scenes of the pyrrhic (ancient armed dance) performed by women appear on Attic vases, providing information about the history of a dance that is not known from other sources. Nude or in some cases dressed as Athena, pyrrhicists must have been the most interesting entertainers, along with other mimic dances, at banquets. The organizer choosing or employing the female pyrrhic dancerfor a banquet or dancers training were the scenes most often depicted onvases of the period.
