Thus Have I Heard
THERE can be few phrases more familiar to readers of Buddhist texts than the traditional opening of the sūtras: Pali: evaṃ me sutaṃ ekaṃ samayaṃ bhagavā Sāvatthiyaṃ viharati. Sanskrit: evam mayā śrutam ekasmin samaye bhagavān Śrdvastyaṃ viharati sma.
