Summary: | Italian poetry's international fame was confirmed with the 1970 awarding of the 'Books Abroad' International Prize for Literature to the late poet Giuseppe Ungaretti, dubbed as the great renovator of Italian poetry. It was further confirmed when Eugenio Montale was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1975. Although many events have transpired in the Italian literary scene since the 1970s, Italian literature has remained vibrant and self-renewing as it counts such renowned writers as Roberto Deidier, Andrea Zanzotto and Umberto Eco in its fold. |
