Description
Summary:In this article Europe will be focused upon, particularly the terrorism faced by the European Union and its efforts to combat it. The EU has declared terrorism as a serious threat to "European security"; it has therefore initiated several wide-ranging measures to deal with this serious threat. These include legislation which has enhanced police powers and mass monitoring of the population. Though the EU claims to be based on the democratic ideal, the public and legislatures have not been provided with proper statistics on terrorism in Europe which would help the population to assess the extent of the threat posed by it. Unless the Middle East issue is resolved and Afghanistan is stabilized, the specter of terrorism will not vanish. In this regard, the Europeans must play a more sincere, independent and proactive role.
