Summary: | With its high level of interactivity, the Internet may intensify the effects associated with exposure to media violence. A study is presented that examines violent content in music videos on four leading music television network websites. It explores the level and characteristics of violence in online music videos, including the nature and number of violent acts, their duration, and types of weapons featured. It also examines the duration of the online music videos, the gender of artists performing in them, and their narrative-performance visual forms. Music videos generally are designed to appeal to the interests of adolescents and young adults, groups particularly vulnerable to media violence. |
