Summary: | The results are reported of an effort to assess the performance of 6 management education institutions, 3 of which focus mainly on postgraduate education and 3 on postexperience education. Three aspects of institutional performance are meaningful, one of which deals with capability development. In the case of nonprofit institutions of the type studied, the relationships between inputs and outputs are not direct nor well established. On the measure of capability development regarding faculty, the following process mechanisms seem to have a strong impact: 1. recruitment, 2. enculturation, 3. regeneration, and 4. redefinition of mission. The relationships that emerged between performance measures and process mechanisms are summarized. Implications regarding the development of the 6 institutions studied and propositions for further inquiry are discussed. |
