Summary: | Mechanical and magnetic degradation of ferromagnetic film under contact stress was investigated through controlled nanoscratch experiments, atomic/magnetic force microscope (AFM/MFM) and analytical simulations. It was found that magnetic degradation was more sensitive to the applied contact stress than mechanical degradation. Also, both magnetic and mechanical properties could affect degradation of surface.
