Summary:This study aimed to map the contemporary scientific literature on the meanings attributed to violence against children and adolescents by working professionals in their daily with situations of violence. We selected abstracts of national scientific journals indexed in LILACS databases, using search words in the title of "violence" and "professional." Review of abstracts resulted in 36 articles, produced from 2000 to 2011. Given the number of articles found, we chose to restrict them from two criteria: qualitative or mixed studies and issues related to the area of psychology. It is considered that the meanings attributed to what constitutes violence by professional interventions can influence the public served and the observance of the rules that relate to mandatory reporting of suspected cases of rights violations against children and adolescents.
