Summary: | (ProQuest: ... denotes non-US-ASCII text omitted.) Book Reviews: Edited by Kim Solga, with Sally Colwell As Janelle Reinelt and Gerald Hewitt note in The Political Theatre of David Edgar: Negotiation and Retrieval, British playwright David Edgar has been labeled passé by some critics. According to their introduction, the book "brings together the disciplines of political philosophy and theatre studies to approach Edgar primarily as a political writer and public social critic" (3). The remaining chapters in Reinelt and Hewitt's book each elaborate a different facet of Edgar's advocacy; the authors view Edgar as a "prolific creative writer," as an "analyst of the contemporary world," and as an "advocate of complex cultural and political positions" (37). |
