Summary:In July 2013, PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases will publish the viewpoint of members of the Cochrane Infectious Diseases Group [1] on the scientific evidence supporting the public-health benefits of preventive chemotherapy [2] in the case of programmes against neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), specifically those for the control and elimination of lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, schistosomiasis, and soil-transmitted helminthiases.
