description | Prior research linking peer and parental attachment to sexual media use has conceptualized religiosity in a peripheral role. However, religion has considerable influence on multiple aspects of social life, including relationships with others. The present study proposes and tests a structural equation model in which religiosity impacts attachment to parents and peers and is negatively related to sexual media use. Emerging adults (N = 245) reported their attachment to parents and peers using the communication subscale of the inventory of peer and parent attachment, level of religiosity, and use of sexual media found on the Internet and in pornographic movies and adult magazines. Analysis of the survey indicates that religiosity is positively associated with attachment to both parents and peers. In addition, religiosity and peer attachment are negatively related to sexual media use. Parent attachment was not related to sexual media use. |
