Summary:The need for the protocols is increasing day by day as the protocols are becoming an important part of the network based computing. Protocols are basically some set of rules defined for communication through which the network devices communicate with each other and exchange information with each other. The protocols have been divided into different categories depending upon their functionality and usage. There are wide varieties of protocols that currently exist which have been defined by some network based standard throughout the world. This research paper presents a critical review of existing protocols with their functionalities usage and applications. This research paper points out the limitations and variations in existing protocols and guides about the feasible methods to administer the issues.
