Description
Summary:In our preliminary analyses of 627 incarcerated adults aged 50 years and older in a northeast prison system, of which 51% are African American, 27% White, and 12% Hispanic, there were no significant differences in self-reported health using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Health-Related Quality of Life-14 "Healthy Days Measure. Given the proportional representation of African Americans in the general population, we argue that the public health impact is greater for these men, their families, and their communities than for their White counterparts, thus perpetuating the disparities in the health observed in communities of color.
