Or a sucker for the narrative of a country boy singer with a brand new variety of talent (along with an inclination for bad behavior) who falls in love with a country girl singer from a distinguished mountain music fam- ily, and those two get married after he leaves his first wife. The resonance of the Cash-Carter story with my own life impels me to imagine an actual scene-as in a movie-of June waiting for Johnny on the river banks, drawing pictures in the sand, when she sees him coming and rises up with a shout and goes running through the shallow waters reaching for his hand.
