Description
Summary:Flow with snowfall past a snow fence is computed numerically and the generation of the snowdrift is investigated. The numerical method employed in this study can be divided into following four parts: (1) Calculation of the air flow around the snow fence by using fractional step method with a generalized coordinate system; (2) Calculation of the movement of test particles which represent snowfall to predict snow accumulation; (3) Estimation of the snow transfer on the ground due to wind through friction; (4) Determination of the shape of the snow surface. These computational procedures are repeated in every time step since the shape of the region is changed by the procedure (4). It is procedure (2) that is newly developed in this study. The results are compared with the field observation and the agreement is satisfactory.
