Summary:[...]the late seventeenth- and early eighteenth-century restoration campaign associated with Hetman Ivan Mazepa (r. 1687-1709) endowed the cathedral with the verticality of its present-day multi-domed baroque silhouette (fig. 2). Since Ukraine's declaration of independence in 1991, two prominent monuments of medieval origin have been recreated in Kyiv, both of whose exteriors mimic the Cossack baroque forms of their lost predecessors.
