Description
Summary:Reviews the book, Child Psychology by Arthur T. Jersild (see record 2007-10755-000). This volume approaches a study of the child, not as an isolated character, but as part of a whole. It is believed that a composite of the natural background and circumscribed environment are necessary to an understanding of child actions and reactions. The principles, familiar to child psychologists, are fully developed; discussed, and then supplemented in confirmatory style by citation of innumerable experimental studies. The several factors involved in maturation are treated in terms of average performance; deviations evidenced by individual differences are also noted. Interdependence of growth and learning must be recognized to understand the patterns of development. This fact is significant in all childhood functioning. The occasional touch of humor in the phraseology is sufficient to give the book a scientific but informal treatment. The work is suitable as a text and as a guide for the child practitioner. As it appears in this revision, the volume is a good source book. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2019 APA, all rights reserved)
