Description
Summary:In this study the Vineland Social Maturity Scale is used, since it reflects the influence of specific instruction and social stimulation. It is proposed herein to determine whether or not the social competence of normal and mentally deficient identical and fraternal twins and siblings follows the pattern of relationship that we would expect on the basis of previous nature-nurture studies. The differences in social competence found in identical twins, fraternal twins, and sibling groups, are consistent in both the normal and deficient sections of this experiment. When the difference in scores within pairs is small, it adds weight to the presumption that the twins are identical, and when there is a larger difference, that they are fraternal. Where environment presents a change, this will be manifested by the degree of social competence in terms of maturation, and measurable by the Vineland Social Maturity Scale.
