Description
Summary:This article provides a systematic and criteria-based review of behavioral science research articles published about Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in 2012. As the fourth review in the series, we followed the format used in previous reviews (Juan, Lee, & Bates, 2012; B. S. K. Kim, Wong, & Maffini, 2010; Okazaki, Kassem, & Tan, 2011). However, we also addressed recommendations listed in prior reviews advocating for a review based on common themes and trends emerging from the research. A search using PsycINFO revealed 248 empirical articles that were coded for specific topics, research methods, and type of sample. We then selected 3 main themes to focus on, based on emerging trends in the field. These areas include health and health-related behaviors, racism and discrimination, and immigrant and refugee communities. A discussion of trends in methods, content, and communities is provided. We also discuss limitations across studies and themes and offer directions for future research.
