Summary: | Asthma is an important health problem, especially pediatric population. We want to investigate changing prevalence of asthma attach and hospitalization rate.
We analyzed retrospectively medical chart in pediatric emergency department six year interval.
95 patients admitted to the emergency department because of acute asthma attack in 1995. 52 were followed of the patient in observation room for 24-48 hour. 27 were discharged in 8 hours. 3 patients were hospitalized. In 2001, 95 patients were admitted with acute asthma attack. 20 of them were followed in observation room for 24-48 hours, 71 were discharged and 4 were hospitalized. 21 (22.1%) patients had recurrent attacks in 1995, and 22 (23.1%) patients in 2001.
We found no difference in acute asthma attack rate and recurrent attack. However recovery time and the number of the patients who had needed to follow in observation room were diminished in recent years. |
