Description
Summary:The health-service-provider (HSP) designation is important to the school-psychology community and we certainly see ourselves as vital participants in the process of defining the education and training of health-service psychologists. Overall, the Blueprint for Health Service Psychology Education and Training (Blueprint) is the product of the Health Service Psychology Education Collaborative (HSPEC) (Health Service Psychology Education Collaborative, 2013), an interorganizational collaboration of several organizations that was supported by the American Psychological Association; it provides an important rationale for the development of the HSP designation, the action steps are reasonable, and there appears to be opportunity for ongoing input as policies and procedures are developed over the next few years. Since the Blueprint is the product of the HSPEC, our comments focus on the preparation and practice of doctoral-level school-psychology practitioners; issues relevant to the distinctions between specialist-level and doctoral-level preparation are not discussed.
