Summary:This study aims to examine how the nursing consultation is developed by the nurses workimg in in Outpatient Specialized Services on HIV/AIDS in the city of Fortaleza-CE. This is an exploratory and descriptive study with a qualitative approach that used content analysis as a technique for data analysis. To perform the nursing consultation, listening was reported by nurses as the main mechanism that enables the construction of empathy and trust relationship with the patient, allowing them to express their doubts, fears and anxieties. It also enables the spread of information and guidance about the pathology, as well as the convening of the subject for an active participation in the care process, trying to make them aware about the importance of the adherence to drug treatment. Nursing consultation configure itself as an educational moment, opportune for knowledge exchange and bonding.
