Summary: | Spent nuclear fuel from on-site storage facilities is delivered in thick-wall cylindrical shipment casks for reprocessing, dry storage or disposal. The cask material is subjected to residual heat released from the spent nuclear fuel, radiation effects and corrosion, which in time can have a negative effect on its physical-mechanical properties. A promising material for such casks is high-duty cast iron with spheroidal graphite. |
